Fees & GST
Transaction fees, subscription fees and tax.
SmilePass charges your practice in two ways: your subscription tier and a per-transaction fee on the payments it processes.
Transaction fees
Each pricing tier has its own per-transaction percentage, with a different rate for membership payments vs other payments. On every patient invoice this appears as a "SmilePass Fee (total)" line, itemised separately from the plan amount. Current rates are on the pricing article and the public pricing page.
Where fees show up
The transaction fee is shown on each patient invoice. The charges SmilePass makes to your practice (subscription + fees) are listed under Billing & Payouts — separate from the patient payments that flow into your own bank account.
GST and tax
Most dental services are GST-free, so the patient's membership and treatment payments don't carry GST — which is why the patient invoice shows an itemised breakdown with no GST line.
GST applies only to the SmilePass platform fee (the service SmilePass provides to your practice). SmilePass accounts for the GST on its own portion — roughly 6% of the fee it charges — so it's handled on the SmilePass side, not added on top of the patient's payment.
As always, confirm the specifics for your own circumstances with your accountant, but in short: the clinic isn't charging GST on dental memberships; the only GST in the chain sits on SmilePass's own fee.
